Well, is He or isn’t He?

…. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-18 NIV

I was cleaning out a drawer recently and came across some invitation cards I made about 5 years ago. The Holy Spirit had impressed an idea upon my heart to have an evening of hospitality. Me being me, I didn’t just say hey come over and let’s hang out, I had to arrange something. I always want to do something meaningful so I made up some cute invitations in Photoshop Elements and sent them out. I called it “Dinner, DVD and a Discussion” invited some ladies over who didn’t know each other and we watched a DVD, had some lovely dinner and then a discussion about the DVD. I just remembered we even had popcorn. Theatre style lol lol.

I started to reminisce about that evening and the movie we watched as soon as I saw those invitations. The first scene was quite riveting. It was about the moments right after the **rapture** of the church and the chaos that ensued. Many people were shocked that they were still here and many were shocked at who wasn’t here. In the midst of it all one thing was clear: what the christians had been saying all along was a fact and JESUS HAD COME BACK for the church like He said He would.

Just watching those first few minutes sent the whole group of ladies into a session of worship that was unbelievable.

This is a not too popular subject that has been around forever. Many of us who have been serving God for a while have most likely experienced the ridicule of those who taunt us because we’ve been saying it over and over but nothing has happened…..yet. I’ve known times in my christian walk where the preacher had us almost convinced that Jesus would be back before we woke up the next morning. Such was the urgency in the air then.

Today…

A lot of preaching is done on faith and yes we need it to receive all that God has for us.

A lot of preaching is done on grace and if we ever needed the grace of God it is now.

A lot of preaching is done on prospering and we can’t be a blessing to others if we are not prospering.

But we are not getting too many messages on the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

I am glad I found those old invitations as I too am guilty of not always being sober and watchful about Jesus’ return. So i just want to gently remind us all today that according to the Word, the time for His return is upon us. As we are busy with our daily lives, planning out futures, buying homes, getting new cars, changing careers, pursuing college degrees, raising children and more, let us stop for a moment and remember that He will come like a thief in the night. No one, not even Jesus, knows when that will be. Only the Father knows the day but He is so good He tells us to look for the signs. He is holding back so that our friends and loved ones won’t get left behind.

Signs of wars and rumors of wars. Matt: 24: 6 & 7

Signs of absolute lawlessness. Matt: 24:12

Signs of earthquakes, and famines all around us. Matt 24:7

He says when we see these things and more begin to happen, “Look up and lift up your head, for your redemption draws near.” Luke 21:28

He told us to be watchful, be ready, and be sober. (Matt 24:42-44, 25:13 and 1 Thess. 5:6).

It is my prayer that not one of us would be caught unaware and be like the foolish virgins who had no oil to see when the bridegroom came. Let us spread the word, stir each other up to good works, keep on keeping on, but remember HE could come any hour of any day.

Be prepared. Be ready in joyful anticipation.

**Rapture** The word rapture itself is not found in the bible but the concept is clearly outlined in Scripture of Jesus coming back to ‘snatch’ the church, His bride, away from this world in an instant. The bible says in the twinkling of an eye. That is quick.

Pause and Ponder

Well, is He or isn’t He? Are you still on the fence about if Jesus will come again? The Word makes it absolutely clear that He IS coming back again and it will be soon. Don’t let time sway you, remember one day with the Lord is like a thousand years so it’s really not a long time. Just let us be thankful for anymore time we have until He comes because His will is not that any should perish.

Prayer

Father, thank You for your love and your compassion. Thank you for sending Jesus to die for us and for remindng us that He will come again. Help us to keep our eyes focused on you and give us expectant hearts towards His soon return as we encourage each other. In Jesus name. Amen.

Blessings and thank you for reading and leaving a comment.

  1. I am so happy to read this encouraging blog about Jesus’s soon return, it refreshes me and I pray many will read it as well. I too need to refocus on the mission of Christ, which is lost souls.

    • Thanks for stopping by Sheila. I too am guilty of being so consumed and concerned with daily life that I haven’t focused the way I should. I thank God for showing me that card and reminding me again that Jesus is coming back. Blessings.
